DM Diver Medic Training   BACK    NEXT
DM Diver Medic Training Programmes.
This area of specialized education at the Paramedic Level, which was the first programme in this area based upon Competency, was introduced in 1989 and accredited by the National Board of Hyperbaric and Diving Medical Technology in 1991. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in the United Kingdom reviewed the programme and approved it in 1992.
The Diver Medic Technician Paramedic (DMT-Paramedic) programme was then dived into lower levels of training and in 1994, when the US Federal Department of Transport published their Competency Guidelines for Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), the DMT series of programmes was adjusted to ensure inclusion of all EMT Competencies at the levels published.
Therefore since 1995, the DMT series was available in the following levels of Competency...
DMT Introductory.
DMT Basic
DMT Intermediate.
DMT Paramedic.
DMT Instructor (at each of the above levels).
DMT Instructor Trainer.
Emergency Diving Accident Management.
Hyperbaric Oxygen in Diving Accident Management.
In 1998, HSE stopped accrediting Diver Medic Training and passed the responsibility to two organisations, Association of Diving Contractors (ADC) International and the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA).
Having reviewed both organisations and their responsiveness to Divers, we choose to submit our programmes to ADC International for their accreditation.
In 2002, ADC International accredited the above programmes in accordance with US Department of Labor/Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OHSA) 29 CFR Part 1910.410. ADC Certification may be reviewed at their web page http://www.adc-usa.org/OHSA_cert_recog.php
The Teaching Development and Instructional Staff of the DMT Training Group Partners continue to strive to ensure that all new procedures and protocols are reviewed by a competent authority before being introduced into any training programme. This constant training development led to the introduction of the Medical Response Diver in February 2003. This THREE (3) Part programme offers in Part 1... four (4) levels of Medical Certification; Part 2... Basic and Advanced Rescue and Recovery with Part 3... dealing with Advanced Technical SCUBA. Details of this programme are available via this LINK.
